The famous and dashing “Total Eclipse of the Heart” song was written and produced by Jim Steinman. Russell Mulcahy was the man who had directed it. It was British singer Tyler who had sung this song in 1983 for his fifth studio album “Faster than the Speed of Night”. The song proved a lucky charm for singer and she became an overnight celebrity. The singer herself had not thought in her wildest dreams that the song gave her success in just few days. In United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, the song remained at No. 1 position for months. A total of 6 million copies were sold of this song while its one day sale was 60,000.
Tyler earned a Grammy Award for this song in the category of Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1984 while she also earned the honor of performing the song before the audience. In UK, the song was honored with Variety Club Award in the same year in 1983.
The writer Jim Steinman had written the song after being inspired from the 1976 film “Futureworld”. The video of the song was shot at Sanatorium and featured Bonnie Tyler.
