Busy Phillips

Last night's 'Cougar Town' concerned Travis (Dan Byrd) going away to college. The maternal instinct rises to new and frightening levels for Jules (Courteney Cox). Sitting up all night to watch your teenage son sleep is kind of creepy.
Laurie's (Busy Phillips) addiction to drama causes problems with her boyfriend Smith (Ryan Devlin) however she ultimately decides to give their more mature relationship a try. Andy (Ian Gomez) is on the outs with wife Ellie (Christa Miller) for telling her that it's his house and he'll do whatever he wants. Clearly, it's not and he won't.
After driving Travis to his chosen school, only 20 minutes away, for a visit ("I love it so much, I never wants to go home."). Jules drives home in tears where she shares her pain with Grayson (Josh Hopkins). They begin to kiss as he takes her upstairs. Did they actually sleep together? As Laurie observed earlier in the show, "vulnerable women are dangerous".

Total Eclipse f the heart lyrics

The famous and dashing “Total Eclipse of the Heart” song was written and produced by Jim Steinman. Russell Mulcahy was the man who had directed it. It was British singer Tyler who had sung this song in 1983 for his fifth studio album “Faster than the Speed of Night”. The song proved a lucky charm for singer and she became an overnight celebrity. The singer herself had not thought in her wildest dreams that the song gave her success in just few days. In United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, the song remained at No. 1 position for months. A total of 6 million copies were sold of this song while its one day sale was 60,000.
Tyler earned a Grammy Award for this song in the category of Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1984 while she also earned the honor of performing the song before the audience. In UK, the song was honored with Variety Club Award in the same year in 1983.
The writer Jim Steinman had written the song after being inspired from the 1976 film “Futureworld”. The video of the song was shot at Sanatorium and featured Bonnie Tyler.
The seventeenth episode of American television series Glee is entitled “Bad Reputation” and it features songs like ‘Run Joey Run’, ‘Physical’, ‘U Can’t Touch This’ and ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’.
Glee is a musical comedy-drama television series that airs on Fox Network in the United States. It concentrates on a high school glee club called “New Directions” at the fictional William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio. Glee aired its second season last month.

Bad Reputation episode will feature ‘Run Joey Run‘ (originally performed by David Geddes) recorded Glee characters Rachel Berry, Noah Puckerman and Finn Hudson. Tonight’s guest stars are include Olivia Newton-John and Molly Shannon.
On this episode, Mr. Will Schuester starts an investigation when a nasty and vulgar list about members of the glee club circulates the halls of McKinley High. Meanwhile, Sue Sylvester is humiliated when a video of her performing the Olivia Newton-John classic ‘Physical’ suddenly emerges.
Gleeks would really enjoy the episode tonight because it features musical performances and classic songs that we haven’t heard for a while.

Dancing with the stars elimination may 4

The remaining contestants on this seasons Dancing With The Stars were split into two separate teams for the cha cha challenge. First, there was Team Gaga. Team Gaga consisted of Pamela Anderson, Micole Scherzinger and NFL star Chad Ochocinco. Team Gaga was able to bring home the championship, after they performed a choreographed number to the popular Lady Gaga hit, “Telephone.” The song also features Beyonce Knowles.
The second team, Team Madonna, consisted of Evan Lysacek, Niecy Nash and Erin Andrews. They were also able to score well in the challenge, but fell just short of the title with their choreographed number to “Holiday.” In the final minutes of their number, the ladies in the group ripped off their skirts and danced in their underwear. While the display might have been original and caught a lot of attention from the media, it was not enough to bring home the victory in the competition.
The moment was particularly thrilling for Niecy Nash, who said that she was excited to be able to show off her “jiggly parts” on the show. She has recently been a regular in the bottom two, but recently made up for her past performances after her waltz with her partner Louis Van Amstel. They were able to earn a final score of 28, tying the group with Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl. Chad and Cheryl had performed a beautiful Viennese waltz that was at a much slower pace than the previous numbers that they had performed together on the hit television series.
Even Lysacek and his partner Anna Trebunskaya were able to bring home the top score this week, with a perfect score of 30. They also received a standing ovation after they had completed their number. Their number was a powerful, briskly paced tango that had taken the judges by surprise.

Update:
The Dancing With the Stars elimination show which aired on May 4 saw Pamela Anderson leave that dance floor for good. The remaining five celebrities left to battle it out for the trophy are Nicole Scherzinger,Evan Lysacek,Erin Andrews,Niecy Nash and Chad Ochocinco.
Who do you want to win?Who will get booted out next week?

Kobe Bryant La Times

Kobe Bryant LA Times Photos: Basketball player Kobe Bryant recently posed for LA Times in an ‘All White Affair’ themed photo shoot.
The L.A. Lakers posed in all white for a Los Angeles Times photo shoot as part of an upcoming interview in the magazine.

These pictures have received mixed reactions, with some people applauding him for this brave effort to do something different, while others criticizing him for looking like a ‘little white robin hood’ in the LA Times photo shoot.

In one such photo for the LA Times, Kobe Bryant can be seen wearing a v-neck tee with a scarf wrapped around his head, while in another one, the star is dressed in a 2-piece suit (see pic above).

Harry Connick Jr

There was only one stand out singer on tonight’s American Idol: Lee DeWyze. It’s been a long journey and unfortunately, this hasn’t been one of American Idol’s best seasons. Harry Connick Jr. mentored the Idol contestants and only Lee DeWyze stood out. Lee brought the swing and conjured up the sounds of Sinatra or Dean Martin.

Who will go home tomorrow? Do you have a guess?

We’re thinking that Casey James or Aaron Kelly will be the one to make their final departure. Crystal was great as always, but the song just didn’t have the extra ‘something’ that Lee brought to the show.

Kara DioGuardi suggested that Lee go home and write 100xs ‘I can win American Idol.’ We agree! At this point, we’re betting it will be a tight run between Crystal and Lee DeWyze. We also have a feeling that Lee’s vulnerability and shyness may endear him to many of the voters, helping him get the votes he needs.

Ernie Harwell

Baseball tonight lost legendary Detroit Tigers broadcaster Ernie Harwell, by all accounts one of the finest gentleman and ambassadors the sport had to offer. No one on the Nationals knew him better or felt his impact more than Steve McCatty, a Troy, Mich. native who worked for the Tigers after his playing career ended. Here, simply, are some of McCatty's unfiltered thoughts on the voice he learned baseball from:

"He was such a big part of my life. It's like a part of your family dies, for everybody. We all knew it was going to happen. I'm sure there's a lot of sad people there.

"You grow up, you go to the ballpark as a kid, you think of Tiger Stadium, the first thing you thought was this green grass when you walked up from underneath. And then you just think of Ernie Harwell's voice. It was everything to us.

"Everybody talks about Vin Scully. He's great at what he does. Ernie would say Vinny was the best. But for us in Detroit, nobody was better than Ernie. It's just kind of strange a part of baseball history is gone now. He was just a wonderful man. Great storyteller. Never heard him cuss in all the years I've know him. In baseball, that's saying something. I think he's the only person that never called me Cat. He always called me Mr. McCatty or Steverino. That's the only guy I let get away with that. He was just a fun guy to be around. He knew so much about the game. It's a big loss for baseball.

"Growing up in Michigan as a kid, what do you hear first? It was just Ernie. Ernie was a summer night in July, sitting next door in the breezeway with my friends, or being out under the tree with my dad. He was so good.

"It's like I would stand around the cage - I wasn't supposed to stand around the cage when we were taking BP. He came up and introduced himself as Ernie Harwell. It was always a joy to see Ernie. I was just thankful for the memories he gave me as a kid."

While McCatty spoke in the clubhouse, a clip of Harwell played on a television screen. McCatty excused himself so he could watch. He gathered himself, shook his head, smiled and started to speak. "Great man," McCatty said.

China's stocks slid anew on Tuesday, with the benchmark index in Shanghai touching its lowest level in seven months amid concerns that the People's Bank of China will go for more monetary tightening to rein in spiraling asset prices.

The CSI 300 Index slid 1.6% to 3,019.45. Futures on the CSI 300 expiring this month, the most active contract, dropped 0.7% to 3,069.4.

China shares, which resumed trading today after a holiday on Monday, opened sharply lower in a knee-jerk response to the central bank's move over the weekend to increase banks' reserve requirement ratio for the third time this year.

The reserve requirement will increase 50% effective May 10, the People’s Bank of China said on May 2. The current level is 16.5% for the biggest banks and 14.5% for smaller ones.

The third increase in the reserve requirement this year won’t be sufficient to rein in inflation and asset price bubbles, according to Goldman Sachs and Royal Bank of Canada. China needs to rein in credit to keep price increases in check, they added.

Measures to cool the real-estate market have included a ban on loans for third-home purchases and raising mortgage rates and down-payment requirements for second-home purchases.

The Shanghai Composite plunged 7.7% last month, the biggest decline since January, as the government unwound monetary stimulus and stepped up measures to prevent a housing bubble inflated by record lending last year. It has slumped 13% in 2010, the world’s third-worst performer.

Ap Statistics

Norton High School should see a 50 percent increase in math, science and English advanced placement enrollment next year, thanks partly to a new three-year grant worth about $400,000.

That's the prediction from Morton Orlov II, president of the Massachusetts Math and Science Initiative, which awarded the grant.

The Advanced Placement Training and Award grant supports teacher training and student support, as well as an equipment and supplies budget, Orlov told the school committee Monday night at Norton Middle School.

Orlov said Norton High has 90 enrollments among its AP math, science and English courses this year. He predicted a 50 percent increase next year, partly due to additional courses being offered.

"We could be closer to 100 percent," Orlov said afterward. Norton High Academic Coordinator Mary Taylor said 16 students are taking AP calculus this year, and 25 are expected to take it next year. AP statistics has 19 students in it, and, she said, "I am sure that number is going to go up."

A number of teachers are signed up for summer AP training, Taylor said.

"I am sure we're going to see a lot of good results," she said of the program. "There's a lot of excitement at the high school."

Orlov's director of advising will meet today with students in small groups in the high school library.

Students taking AP courses can qualify for college credit or advanced placement with a score of 3 or higher on a scale of 1-5 on an exam at the end of the course.

The new grant offers students Saturday study sessions, as well as incentives such as $100 for each score of 3 or higher. Teachers and administrators also can earn incentives.

Norton Superintendent Patricia Ansay said that while some students take four or five AP courses, others "are afraid to put their big toe in the water."

"We think it's probably a good idea to take one before you depart Norton High School," Orlov said.

Lynn Redgrave, known for work in 'Georgy Girl,' dies at 67

Lynn Redgrave, an actress who excelled in unglamorous screen roles, notably in "Georgy Girl" (1966) as an ugly duckling in swinging London, and then alternated between supporting roles and a long engagement as spokeswoman for Weight Watchers, died May 2 at her home in Kent, Conn. She was 67.

No cause of death was reported, but Ms. Redgrave had been treated for breast cancer in recent years. She explored her struggles with cancer and bulimia in books and one-woman shows, which also touched on her place in one of Britain's greatest theatrical dynasties.

Ms. Redgrave was the youngest child of actors Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson and the sibling of actress Vanessa Redgrave and actor Corin Redgrave, who died April 6 at 70. Corin's daughter Jemma became an actress, as did Vanessa Redgrave's daughters Joely Richardson and Natasha Richardson, who died last year at 45 from injuries in a skiing accident.

Unlike her siblings, Lynn Redgrave said she did not plan on a career in the arts. She entered the family business only after her interest in horse jumping proved unrealistic. Under the tutelage of her brother-in-law, , celebrated director Tony Richardson, Ms. Redgrave made a memorable film debut as a barmaid who screams "Rape!" in "Tom Jones" (1963) before moving on to larger parts on stage and screen.

Impressed by her performance in "Tom Jones," Laurence Olivier hired Ms. Redgrave for his National Theatre Company and cast her in works by Shakespeare and Bertolt Brecht. She displayed a talent for light comedy, reportedly stealing the show as a less-than-erudite flapper in Noel Coward's "Hay Fever," while also taking screen roles that elevated her public recognition.

In "Girl With Green Eyes" (1964), Ms. Redgrave was the slang-spewing, man-eating roommate of a country girl played by Rita Tushingham. Two years later, Ms. Redgrave gained 18 pounds for the starring role in "Georgy Girl," in which she was cast as a frumpy, good-hearted soul who finds love with her father's boss, played by James Mason.

Ms. Redgrave earned an Academy Award nomination for "Georgy Girl," putting her in direct competition with her sister, Vanessa, who starred the same year in "Morgan!" (They both lost to Elizabeth Taylor for "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?")
Nevertheless, "Georgy Girl" was Ms. Redgrave's breakthrough and perhaps her finest and most enduring performance, combining what critics regarded as an unpretentious acting style that managed to convey vulnerability and great personal appeal.

"Miss Redgrave has magic in the very way she transforms face and figure from scene to scene, bringing inner beauty and grace to physical terms, contracting and expanding for the size of passion, for the grand laugh at life's ironies and the takeoff on its pretenses," wrote reviewer Judith Crist. "Hers is a beautiful performance."

"Georgy Girl" cemented Ms. Redgrave's place in popular culture but had, in her own words, typecast her as "the happy lass with the broken heart." She played variations on that role for years to come, including the play "My Fat Friend," which reached Broadway in 1974. She spent most of the 1980s as the spokeswoman for Weight Watchers and wrote a well-received book about her eating binges, "This Is Living: How I Found Health and Happiness."

Her acting career, meanwhile, was scattershot. She appeared in "The Deadly Affair" (1966), a spy thriller directed by Sidney Lumet, and the slapstick comedy "Smashing Time" (1967) with Tushingham. One of her few bright spots was Woody Allen's "Every Thing You Always Wanted to Know About Sex * But Were Afraid to Ask" (1972); she played a queen who sports an unbreakable chastity belt.

Mostly, she appeared in a series of admittedly "terrible" films such as "The Happy Hooker" (1975), in the title role as the author Xaviera Hollander. She also starred in short-lived TV series, most improbably as the Irish-Catholic love interest of the kvetching Jewish comedian Jackie Mason on "Chicken Soup" (1989).

Happy Star Wars Day

May 4th is just another day to most people. But to folks who idolize Han Solo and dream of leading a rebel strike force against Jar Jar Binks, it's something far more significant. It's Star Wars Day.

So, what happens today? Well, instead of saying "May the Force be with you," devotees of George Lucas say, "May the fourth be with you." You know, 'cause it's May the 4th. Get it? Think of it as a secret handshake among the hardest of the hardcore Star Wars nerds, er, fans.

"Star Wars Day" isn't an official holiday (sadly, you still have to go to work), but it is creating a disturbance in the Search box. Web lookups for "star wars day" and "may the fourth be with you" are both roaring through hyperspace. Also, related lookups on "star wars movies," "star wars comics," and "star wars quotes" are all perennially popular.

Nerdy? No doubt about it, young Jedi. But who doesn't love nerding out every once in a while? Just think of Star Wars Day as a day of much-needed harmony for a war-torn galaxy far, far away.

On Star Wars Day, R2D2 and C-3PO get along rather than bicker like an old married couple. Princess Leia is a bit more patient with that "walking carpet" named Chewbacca. Darth Vader cuts his subordinates a break, Jabba gets an extra-special dessert, and the Millennium Falcon finally gets that long-needed tune-up. It's Star Wars Day, guys. Grab the nearest Wookie and party.

Shahzad Faisal - Times Square Bomber

A Pakistani-American man from Connecticut, Shahzad Faisal, has been arrested in connection Saturday night's attempted car bombing in New York City's Times Square. He was arrested at JFK airport where he was attempting to flee the country, CNN.com reports. He was heading to Dubai, officials say.

ABC News reports that Faisal, 30, lives in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and that 3 other people he's connected to are also subjects of the investigation. Officials tracked Faisal down with help from records of his purchase of the Nissan Pathfinder involved in the attempted bombing.

HuffingtonPost.com reports that U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder issued a statement that said, in part, "This investigation is ongoing, it is multi-faceted, and it is aggressive. As we move forward, we will focus on not just holding those responsible for it accountable, but also on obtaining any intelligence about terrorist organizations overseas."

As a New York resident, I can assure you that we don't like to see our city attacked, but it's business as usual here. We know about the attempted attack and in some ways, we've chalked it up to "Only in New York!" which happens every day in this town. We are lucky no one was hurt and that Faisal didn't know how to make a bomb!

It's sort of amazing that they caught him at the airport about to board a flight! Nice job

Real Housewives of New Jersey: Hold on to your buhbies

Ayyyyyyyyy, fuhgeddaboutit. The Real Housewives of New Jersey is back and your trusty one-half Italian, Staten Island-native (with lots of family in New Jersey -- Monmouth county, represent!) is here to give the blow-by-blow for all you juicy husbands and prostitution whores out there.

But first, a quick refresher: Danielle is a single mother and possibly a one-time "prostitution whore." She's the subject of a book called "Cop Without A Badge." Sisters Caroline and Dina (who are definitely family, though some claim are also "family") started a mini-crusade to out Danielle's past all over the ritzy Franklin Lakes, New Jersey community last season. Their sister-in-law Jacqueline was Danielle's seemingly only friend and defended her at last season's finale. Teresa is the spunky, raven-haired lady with practically no forehead. Seriously. It's just like hairline, eyebrows. Boom. Just like that. She infamously flipped a table during last season's finale when Danielle brought out "the book" and spent the rest of the season trying to get her three daughters into showbiz (no comment). She also built a house made entirely out of marble, onyx and granite.

But that was the past and, even though Danielle claimed last season that the present was very much in the past (juh?), we've got a new season with new drama. And Danielle's got a new weave.

Here's what all went down:

Since we've last left Caroline her husband Albert has lost like a ton a weight. He had a health scare and dropped it using what Jacqueline called a "rubber band." So, either he's snapping it against his wrist to control a food addiction or she meant to say he's got a lap-band, a la Al Roker. They're gearing up to host a benefit dinner for the sheriff at their home, which is totally a normal thing people do all the time for law enforcement officials when they're not involved in organized crime, right? Right. To help clear the yard of doggy droppings, they enlist the help of their son's college roommate/daughter's boyfriend, Vito. Now, full Italian-American disclosure, I am SO Italian-American that I went to high school with Vito and his family owns the Italian deli in my town where my mother would purchase her braciole for Sunday Sauce.

And speaking of Sunday sauce, Teresa and her brood of Lohans-in-the-making are preparing the year's worth of red sauce. (Fun fact: Apparently, women who are having their time of the month are not allowed to help make the sauce.) T, not to be confused with this T of Sicilian descent, is pregnant with her fourth child and her juicy husband is hoping for a boy.

Also pregnant? Jacqueline. It's sort of nice since last season her struggle with fertility was a storyline. She gives birth to a beautiful bambino named Nicholas, who I am sure will be called Nicky growing up. Trust. Her 18-year-old daughter has an older boyfriend now and she has a very uncomfortable, but sort of awesome conversation with both of them on camera about using birth control. Good for her. Then, in a moment totally not set-up by producers of this show I'm sure, her husband tells her he doesn't want Jacqueline to hang out with Danielle anymore.

Dina has found Buddha or something and has forgiven Danielle for whatever happened. Now she doesn't let negativity into her life. I'm sure that will last.

Of course, the star of the show will always be Danielle and she starts this episode, I kid you not, yelling at a priest. I'm not entirely clear what she was doing there, (asking to learn how to pray for people who've wronged her? OK, fine.), but this guy sort of wasn't having it. So she yells. At a priest. A lot. Then she heads to a boutique where she has a running tab (which I'm very convinced she will pay promptly in full). The woman who owns the boutique is all playing besties with Danielle, but later at Caroline's sheriff payoff benefit, boutique owner tells Caroline, Teresa, Dina and Jacqueline that she's not Danielle's friend and more or less thinks she's a prostitution whore through and through. Yeah, lady, way to keep it classy. Danielle heard about the benefit from her pedicurist and piles her 11- and 15-year-old daughters into the car to just drive by Caroline's house and see the turnout. Obviously there's no good way that's going to end, and eventually her daughters are able to convince her to turn around. In her interview, Danielle says OF COURSE the new Danielle didn't go, but the old Danielle would have. Considering she was already in her Range Rover on her way there WITH HER KIDS IN THE BACK SEAT, I'd say we're dealing with an older model.

The rest of this season looks completely nuts. I think there might be a stabbing? Or a gun? I don't know. I'm sure Jacqueline will struggle to maintain a relationship with Danielle despite her husband's (and sisters-in-law's) objections.

I'll be here to blog the whole friggin' thing for you.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — A senior on the Virginia men's lacrosse team was charged Monday with the slaying of a fellow student on the women's team, stunning students at the picturesque campus.
George Huguely, 22, of Chevy Chase, Md., was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Yeardley Love, also a senior, of Cockeysville, Md., Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo said.
Longo said Love's roommate called police around 2:15 a.m. concerned that Love may have had an alcohol overdose, but police found her dead with obvious physical injuries.
"It was quickly apparent to them that this young lady was the victim of something far worse," Longo said.
The police chief said that Huguely and Love were in relationship at some point and that Huguely quickly became the focus. Longo would not detail the extent of Love's injuries, but said there did not appear to be any weapons used in the slaying.
A steady stream of students preparing for finals later in the week wandered down the street that runs by the house where Love's body was found. Drivers slowed down and pointed as they approached the building.
"Everybody's kind of taking a wait-and-see approach," said Drew Cook, a 22-year-old senior from Burke.
Cook said all he knew was what was included in an e-mail sent to the university community. He said suggestions from police that it could be a domestic incident and there were no other suspects didn't ease tensions.
"Just to hear that anybody in the U.Va. community could be suspected of that, regardless of the relationship, does give you a sense of unease," Cook said.
Kyle Cecil, 22, of Newport News, said he was shocked to see police cars at the building Monday morning. He said Love's death was the talk of campus. He lived on the same hall as Huguely as a freshman and knew him well enough to say hello.
"It's sad that two people with a lot of potential, one their life is over and the other's life is significantly altered," Cecil said.
Huguely was being held in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
Huguely and Love were scheduled to graduate later this month. Leonard Sandridge, executive vice president of the university, said the campus was saddened over Love's death.
He added the shock is magnified by the fact that the accused is "one of our own," he told reporters.
Both highly ranked teams are preparing for the national tournament later this month. Virginia's men's team was ranked No. 1 for most of the season and expects to host a first-round game in the tournament after winning the Atlantic Coast Conference championship last month. The women's team also was expected to get into the tournament.
Huguely, a midfielder, wasn't a starter but played in all 15 games this season. He had four goals and three assists. Love played defense and started in three games this season.
When asked how the death would affect the upcoming tournament, athletics director Craig Littlepage said it was "not even entering into our thoughts" but that for the players' sake they wanted to "try to get back to some things that are normal."
Love was "a person who was described as an angel by teammates and friends," Littlepage said.
Love played varsity lacrosse and field hockey for four years at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Baltimore.
"Yeardley was an outstanding young lady — joyous, spirited a wonderful person," said Sister Patricia McCarron, headmistress of the school. "I know we all enjoyed watching her on the lacrosse field and seeing her walk the hallways at NDP. We are proud to call Yeardley 'one of our girls.'"
Mary Bartel, who coached Yeardley in lacrosse at Notre Dame Prep, said, "Yeardley was the core of the personality of the team. She was our laughter, a good soul. She always found an appropriate way to lighten things up.
"I don't think there is a soul in this building who couldn't say her name without smiling. Yeardley loved NDP, and NDP loved her. She was a good soul and an outstanding athlete."
University president John Casteen said in a release on the university's website that Love's death "moves us to deep anguish for the loss of a student of uncommon talent and promise."
"That she appears now to have been murdered by another student compounds this sense of loss by suggesting that Yeardley died without comfort or consolation from those closest to her," Casteen said.
"She deserved the bright future she earned growing up, studying here, and developing her talents as a lacrosse player," Casteen said. "She deserves to be remembered for her human goodness, her capacity for future greatness, and for the terrible way in which her young life has ended."
By coincidence, Huguely attended the same prep school as at least one of the Duke lacrosse players who were accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a team party. The charges later were dismissed.
Huguely played both varsity lacrosse and varsity football at the Landon School, a private school in Bethesda, Md., and was co-captain of the lacrosse team in his senior year, school spokeswoman Jean Erstlin said. She said the school had no comment on his arrest.
In a 2006 interview with The Washington Post, Huguely defended his former Landon School teammates who were involved in the Duke scandal. "In this country, you're supposed to be innocent until proven guilty," he told the paper.

Knife-wielding woman stabs 4 in West Hollywood Target store

Authorities say Layla Trawick, 34, entered the store and attacked shoppers with a butcher knife and a steak knife. An off-duty L.A. County sheriff's deputy and store security guards apprehended her.
A woman wielding two knives went on a rampage Monday at a Target store in West Hollywood, stabbing four shoppers in an apparently random attack that left one victim in critical condition, authorities said.

Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are still trying to determine a reason for the attack.

Entertainment journalist Allison McNamara was shopping at the store when she encountered a screaming woman in the aisle that separates the skin care and kitchen sections.

"She was yelling 'I'm bipolar. There's no witness protection program.' "

McNamara said she watched helplessly as the woman plunged a knife into the upper back and shoulder of a male shopper. He had crouched down and covered up to fend off the blows, she said.

"You could see where the knife was going into his back. The knife had ridges and a tag on it. She was going as fast and strong as she could. Four to six inches were covered in blood. She looked like she was going to stab everyone there," McNamara said.

Moments later, the woman looked straight at McNamara, who immediately bolted out of the store with other shoppers and employees. McNamara immediately sent out a Twitter message telling people what she had seen.

Authorities credited Deputy Clay Grant Jr., who was off duty, with preventing additional casualties. Grant was at the Target shopping for paper towels on his day off when he heard screams.

Customers began racing past him toward the exit. "Somebody has a knife," he heard someone in the crowd say.

Out of the cosmetics aisle he saw a young woman wearing a halter top and flowery pants, with a steak knife in one hand and a butcher knife in the other.

Grant, 26, drew his Beretta service weapon and identified himself to the woman as a sheriff's deputy. He demanded she drop the knives. The woman, he said, ran down the aisle, turned and dashed past four other aisles.

"Drop your knife" he ordered again.

She turned, her expression blank and confused, clutching the knives. He said he recalled his training, decided that from her distance of about 20 feet she was no danger to him, and chose not to pull the trigger.

The woman saw his gun and dropped both knives on the floor.

Grant and Target security officials restrained the woman, then handcuffed her.

Hours later, after recounting the incident to his worried mother, Grant said he didn't feel like a hero.

"I just come here to do my duties," the soft-spoken deputy said.

Authorities identified the alleged attacker as Layla Rosetta Trawick, 34, of Antioch, Calif.

Trawick entered the store at La Brea Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard after noon and picked up two knives, apparently merchandise from the store.

The stabbing set off a stampede of customers, authorities said.

Deputies with the sheriff's West Hollywood station responded after numerous 911 calls reported a gunman at the Target, Sgt. Josh Mankini said. Officials speculate the "gunman" was probably Grant.

"There was a panic in the store," Mankini said.

Officials praised Grant for his quick thinking, saying he might have prevented the situation from getting far worse.

"We are exceptionally proud of Deputy Grant," sheriff's Capt. Michael Parker said. "The reason why this tragic situation wasn't worse was because of the quick thinking of an armed, off-duty sheriff's deputy who was willing to risk his life to end this situation."

Four people were wounded, including a woman who was carrying a baby. The baby was unhurt. The most seriously injured victim was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in critical condition, officials said. He was showing signs of improvement late Monday.

L.A. County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said Trawick is being held at the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station jail on $1-million bond. Store security cameras captured the attack, but the footage is not being released.

Grand Ole Opry House hit by severe flooding

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country stars were heartbroken to learn Monday that the mecca of their music, The Grand Ole Opry House, was hit by floodwaters that washed over the city and are concerned about how much damage was done to the landmark.
The stage is of particular concern. At the center is a circle made of floorboards cut from the old stage at the Opry's former home of Ryman Auditorium. It's considered by many to be the heart of country music.
"As a country singer, there is only one place you dream of playing in your lifetime, and that is the Grand Ole Opry House," singer Blake Shelton said in an e-mail. "Standing on center stage in the 6-foot circle of wood cut from the stage of the Ryman is something I never take for granted. The history and legacy of that circle is awe-inspiring."
Grand Ole Opry member Dierks Bentley canceled a couple of shows over the weekend for the first time in his career to take care of flooding at his house, which paled in comparison, he said.
"We've all been affected by it," Bentley said of the flooding. "There's devastation all over the city. But to see the Grand Ole Opry affected, that just really hit home for me, even more than having water in my house."
Bentley, whose hits include "Sideways" and "I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes," said the destruction at the Grand Ole Opry House was topic No. 1 for country music players Monday. It's unclear how much water inundated the entertainment complex. Pictures put out with a news release show water at least 3 feet high and this week's scheduled shows have been moved to alternate venues.
Shelton, who's hits include "She Wouldn't Be Gone," and this year's "Hillbilly Bone," a duet with Trace Atkins, is scheduled to play there May 13.
"The Opry House is hallowed ground," Shelton said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "We all need to help to make sure it lasts. I am devastated to hear that it is affected by this disaster."
The Opry House is part of the large Gaylord Opryland Hotel complex that took on water when the Cumberland River rose more than 12 feet above flood stage due to record rains that have inundated middle and western Tennessee. An aerial view showed the area surrounded by water.
"My first job in music was at Opryland USA," singer John Rich said in an e-mail. "To see it under water is a heartbreaking thing. I am sure the country music community will pull together and help overcome this disaster. I am ready to roll up my sleeves as soon as I get the call."
The flood hits as the Opry was poised for an 85th birthday celebration. Tuesday night's Opry show will be at War Memorial Auditorium and weekend shows will be moved to the Ryman Auditorium. Both are former homes to the Opry.
The Grand Ole Opry has been held at the Opry House in east Nashville since 1974, with an annual winter sojourn to the Ryman each February since 1999. The Opry puts on 150 shows a year and the House hosts other concerts and performances.
This is the second time the Opry has been forced from the complex. Flooding on the Cumberland in 1975 also pushed the show to Nashville's Municipal Auditorium.
"While we ourselves are shaken by the impact of the flooding of the Opry House and throughout the area, it is important that Nashville's most treasured tradition continues with this week's shows," Grand Ole Opry vice president Pete Fisher said in the release.
It's unclear how long shows will have to be moved to other venues and it did not give details on how much water is in the Opry House. Pictures of the stage door show water above the door knob and a shot of the facade showed water several feet high as well.
The nearby hotel had 10 feet of water inside early Monday and flood waters had yet to reach their crest early Monday evening. City officials said earlier in the day the hotel would be closed for weeks up to several months. The hotel's website said reservations would not be accepted for several weeks.
Based on his own experience with the flood damage at his home, Bentley wasn't optimistic about the Opry's stage: "At my house, if water touches anything, it's ruined. That wood, hell, maybe it's got enough magic on it that it can survive the worst. I think everything in there is toast."

UVA Lacrosse Player killed - Yeardley Love & George Huguely Facebook pages

The unfortunate news was delivered earlier on Monday that a female UVA Lacrosse player was killed. The 20-year-old female, Yeardley Love, was believed to be murdered by a fellow student and another Lacrosse player from the men's team, George Huguely. Police have taken Huguely into custody. With the news of the girl's death and the potential suspect, the Yeardley Love Facebook and George Huguely Facebook pages have become search destinations for many internet users.

The Yeardley Love Facebook page can be seen here or seen here. It does not give much more than a picture of the late student and one of her friends laying across a table. Yeardley has over 1,000 friends on her page. A search of her friends for George Huguely turns up 0 results, although it was reported that the two shared a relationship together in the past. That may also be due to the fact Huguely does not have a Facebook, as of now (see below). It's unclear at this time what Huguely's motive was in the killing, if he is indeed the guilty party. Yeardley does have several friends on her profile from the UVA Lacrosse teams as one would expect.

A George Huguely Facebook does not appear to exist at this time. A search of Huguely's name only turns up this page - what appears to be a recently created "Crime Scene - U. Va. lacrosse player George Huguely charged in Yeardley Love's death" page. It's possible that if Huguely ever had a Facebook profile it was pulled down by a friend or family member upon his arrest to prevent any info from being revealed. However, it has yet to be confirmed if he even had a Facebook profile.

Also of note, the Virgina Cavaliers Athletic website has the following profile of George Huguely for the Lacrosse team roster. Huguely is listed at 6'2 and 209 pounds as a senior from Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Franklin lakes NJ- The Real Housewives of New Jersey brings the spice back in life

The Real Housewives of New Jersey is back, not just with a bang, but rather with more spice, gossip and loads of fun. The second season was premiered on May 3, 2010 and it was such a treat to watch the stars back in action.
We list here the things we love best about this show.
Well, we were waiting in eager anticipation for watching Dina’s cats even though it is doubtful whether they figure into the action or not. We absolutely love the hairless cat named Grandma Wrinkles, and Ladybug — a white Chinchilla Persian that looks like a poodle.
In Last season’s finale we were shocked when we heard the words “Prostitute whore!”coming from the mouth of Teresa. It was kind of unexpected since she was the sweetheart of the show. We have watched her temper and now as she gets ready to give birth to her fourth child, we will see how well she handles motherhood.
The dialogues of the show, too, are fab, to say the least. They are smart, sexy and sassy. As Teresa says “Danielle, you put the ‘cont’ in ‘contradiction, ‘we can’t help but squeal with pure joy.

Stefanie Spielman, wife of Ohio State and NFL star, dies at 42 after long battle with cancer

Stefanie Spielman, wife of NFL star, dies at 42

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Stefanie Spielman, the wife of NFL and Ohio State star Chris Spielman who led a public fight against breast cancer, died Thursday after a lengthy battle with the disease. She was 42.

Stefanie Spielman died at the family’s home in Upper Arlington, surrounded by her family, said WBNS radio in Columbus, where Chris Spielman co-hosts a show.

“Stefanie has gone home to be with the Lord,” Chris Spielman said in a statement released by the station. “For that, we celebrate, but with broken hearts. I want to thank everyone for their support over the last 12 years. Together, with your help, hopefully we made a difference in this fight.”

Stefanie Spielman was 30 years old and three months pregnant in 1998 when she detected a lump in her breast. She later miscarried and discovered she had cancer. She survived four bouts with cancer before a fifth recurrence in March.

Chris Spielman was playing linebacker with the Buffalo Bills when he decided to give up football for a year to stay home with his wife and children. When his wife lost her hair because of chemotherapy treatments, he shaved his head.

“People say ‘It’s a great thing that you’re doing,’” Chris Spielman said at the time. “I always say it would be a terrible thing if I didn’t.”

The Spielmans became advocates for breast-cancer detection and research, winning several awards for their dedication to the cause. They raised more than $6 million for breast cancer research at Ohio State, where she also had attended school, through the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research.

She helped form a support group for young women with breast cancer, hosted an annual event that honored cancer survivors and created a fund to help breast cancer patients and their families who struggled financially. She was inducted into the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame in 2002 for her work.

“We have lost a leader in the fight against cancer,” seven-time Tour de France winner and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong said. “Stefanie was a living example of courage and strength to everyone around her.”

Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel called Stefanie Spielman an inspiration.

“Stefanie has inspired the entire Buckeye nation and Columbus community with her courage and strength,” Tressel said in a statement. “We will miss her and will always remember the lessons we learned from her. She will always be a special Buckeye.”

Two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, the president and CEO of the Ohio State Alumni Association, said Stefanie Spielman was a compassionate person who “took her personal struggle and used it as a platform to help other women battling breast cancer.” He said the Ohio State community was “tremendously saddened” by her death.

Chris Spielman played 10 seasons in the NFL with the Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills before retiring after a violent hit that left him momentarily paralyzed when he was with the Cleveland Browns.

His brother is a profile in courage

TAMPA - Don Basilone was 12 years old when his older brother John went to fight in World War II.

John, 23, had enlisted in the Marines in 1940 and eventually was shipped off to fight the Japanese in the Pacific.

During the bloody battle of Guadalcanal, Gunnery Sgt. Basilone held off 3,000 Japanese troops after his 16-member unit was reduced to two.

Manning two machine guns, Basilone fired nonstop during an overnight battle, cutting down wave after wave of attacking soldiers.

Sgt. Basilone became the only enlisted Marine in World War II to receive the Medal of Honor, a Purple Heart and the Navy Cross (for the battle of Iwo Jima).

"He was a hero, and now people are learning about what he did because of the TV series ("The Pacific") on HBO," said Don Basilone, who is 80 and lives in New Port Richey.

"I was just a kid when he left," he said. "I was the youngest of 10, and I remember when my brother came home after Guadalcanal. There were 50,000 people who came to the parade in our little town."

It was the last time Don would see his brother.

John Basilone, a wisecracking former boxer and truck driver from Raritan, N.J., is one of the central characters in the 10-episode miniseries "The Pacific."

Produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, "The Pacific" intertwines the true stories of three real-life hero Marines: Robert Leckie, Eugene Sledge and Basilone. Their stories began with the series debut on March 14 recounting the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

The second episode, which debuted March 21, covered Basilone's heroism at Guadalcanal.

Actor Jon Seda, who plays Basilone, has said, "It's such a privilege and honor to have had the opportunity to portray these men. ... I only wish and hope that I had an ounce of the same courage that these guys had."

In February, Don Basilone attended a special screening in Raritan of the first episode of "The Pacific" series. He said he thought it was accurate.

"It was a terrible war, but it had to be fought," he says.

For 28 years, Raritan has held an annual John Basilone Memorial Parade.

Don Basilone, who retired to New Port Richey in 1999, says a series such as "The Pacific" is important because it shows young people the sacrifices that were made for freedom.

He said that after his brother came home for a visit in 1943, John went on a war bond tour with movie stars such as John Garfield and Virginia Grey. The beginning of his celebrated return was covered in Episode 3 of "The Pacific," which aired March 28. More about his war bond tour airs on Episode 5, debuting Sunday.

"He wanted to go back to the war," Basilone says. "Usually a Medal of Honor winner didn't have to go back, but he wanted to, and he kept bugging them."
John Basilone seemed to be uncomfortable with his celebrity status. The Marine Corps at first turned down his request to go back to the front. And he turned down the Corps' offer of a commission and an assignment as an instructor.

The Marines finally agreed he could return. While stationed at Camp Pendleton, he met Lena Mae Riggi, a sergeant in the Marine Corps Women's Reserve. They were married just before he shipped out for the Pacific.

Their whirlwind courtship and marriage will be covered in Episode 8, debuting May 2. "He only knew her a short time before they were married," says Don Basilone.

Basilone says it's going to be tough for him to watch the episode depicting the battle of Iwo Jima, where his brother died. His brother was serving as a machine-gun section leader when his unit became pinned down by enemy fire from a blockhouse.

He circled the Japanese, made his way to the top of the blockhouse and single-handedly destroyed it with grenades and demolitions. He then helped an American tank get through a minefield before being cut down by a machine gun.

Don Basilone remembers getting the news that his brother had died.

"There was no television back then, and it took longer for news to be reported," he says. "But his death was big news. I think it was harder for me and my sister to handle his death because there was so much publicity."

'All My Children''s Ricky Paull Goldin Tries 'Seeing vs. Believing'

"All My Children" star Ricky Paull Goldin (Jake Martin) has been on a quest to understand the life of his father, Paul Goldin, since the senior Goldin, a well-known hypnotist and psychic, died in 2008. Armed with his father's journal, Ricky and his skeptical friend Jeff Gurtman travel the country in search of abnormalities, unexplained phenomena and the paranormal for a one-hour event, "Seeing vs. Believing," premiering Sunday night at 8 p.m. on TLC.

ET: How did you get time off from "All My Children" to do this project?

Ricky Paull Goldin: When I walked into my executive producers, I said, "Here is a project that is inspired by my father and his real-life experiences. And he asked me on his death bed to go and find these people who are touched and special and have claims and show them to the world." I told my executive producer that, I told my network that and they said, "We love you. We want you to be happy. Go and do what you need to do."

The schedule on a daytime drama is grueling, but we pushed some days and we pulled some days. I got out of Dodge and started our paranormal investigations. It is as if I never left "All My Children."

ET: Tell me about your dad.

Ricky Paull Goldin: My father was the world-famous hypnotist Paul Goldin, renowned around the world. He hypnotized hundreds of thousands of people. He was an entertainer as well because he did have a gift and he did have to make money. We found out a lot more about my father in his death than in life. He worked for the CIA. He worked on cases like the Jonestown Massacre. He was famous for hypnotizing 10,000 people at one time. He was a man who was asked to start a new religion in India, but he bowed out gracefully. He has a clinic in Beijing and Ireland and a new one opening in London. My little sister Katie Goldin and I will open a new one in America eventually. Meanwhile, she is running the one in Ireland. She is the most popular and youngest hypnotherapist in Ireland.

ET: Back before reality TV became so popular, you produced "Street Match," a reality dating show that was before its time. Was this harder to produce or easier to produce?

Ricky Paull Goldin: "Street Match" would hook up people on the street who had never met. I was the cupid. That was a hard show because that was a very human thing. You were waiting for that human moment to happen. This is not an easy show either. This is also based on: I want to capture on-camera something real happening. I am a firm believer that believers all have something in common. Believers have all had an experience and come face to face with something they can not explain. I think that skeptics have never seen anything, so they have never had a reason to be believe. I would like to give them that reason.

ET: What is the spookiest thing that happened while you were filming?

Ricky Paull Goldin: The reason I have my dear friend Jeff Gurtman along is he is absolutely a relentless skeptic, who doesn't believe anything, but that is because he has never experienced anything. I don't know who is a younger soul or an older soul between the two of us. I have my opinions and I am sure he has some very strong opinions of his own. That is what helped to keep this show on track and keep it real while we kept cameras rolling, no matter what happened.

The scariest thing so far is when we went to the cursed demonic land in Arkansas called Hell's Half Acre, where I got told not to go. The entire town is freaked out by this property. We went there and trampled all over Hell's Half Acre for three days and nights and it turned into like the 'Blair Witch Project.' I [ended up getting] 21 stitches in my face.

ET: Has "Seeing vs. Believing" changed what you believe now and have you made a dent in Jeff?

Ricky Paull Goldin: I think I made a little scratch in Jeff. I have to tell you that I was raised in my family with something to keep us kids from fibbing and that was called "On Your Honor." If you say something is "On Your Honor," it better be true. On my honor, I was really shook up after Hell's Half Acre and so was my crew. Our timecodes got really screwed up after that event, Jeff almost lost his job at home and the Native Americans told us if we go back up there, the spirit will follow us home. I don't care who you are, if you have a chief elder telling you that if you go up there one more time this spirit will follow you home, and that they don't let their children go there or play there, and they don't let the name of that place cross their lips, I don't care who you are, that is enough to terrify anybody.

ET: If the ratings are good, is there enough material out there to do more shows?

Ricky Paull Goldin: I've got to tell you, my personal opinion is it is a bottomless pit. We have already gotten thousands of e-mails, Twitters and Facebooks messages saying, "Come and check this out. Or I know a person who can do this, or I have an aunt whose house is so terrifying, she moved out and hasn't been able to sell it in 10 years." There is a family in Pennsylvania who bought a house and six months later they are getting all kinds of crazy activity. The neighbors told them, "Didn't anybody tell you that last year the man went crazy and killed his whole family?" They didn't and now they have a lawsuit, because in most states, you have to disclose if a house is haunted. How can that be a law, how can that stand in court if there is not something to it?
